What This Table Does and Doesn’t Cover
The figures above are university tuition only — set and charged by the university itself, not by Study in Ukraine Today. Our own admission, invitation letter, and support services are priced separately and depend on the package you choose; contact us for a breakdown specific to your situation, since bundling this into a single “one price for everyone” figure wouldn’t be accurate.
Other Costs to Realistically Budget For
Tuition is rarely the only cost of studying abroad. Beyond tuition and hostel fees, realistically plan for:
- Proof of financial means for your visa: Ukraine’s official general requirement (Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Decision No. 884, 4 December 2013) is approximately 2,020 UAH per day of your planned stay, calculable in cash, travel cheques, or an international card with a recent statement. Confirm the exact current amount and accepted proof formats with your specific consulate, since this can be updated and can differ from the general tourist-visa calculation for student applicants — see our student visa requirements page.
- Visa processing fee: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that Ukraine’s embassies and consulates charge a basic visa fee of $65.00 for processing an application via regular service, and that fees are doubled for expedited service. Two qualifications matter: fees for certain visa types and certain nationalities may differ from the basic fee under the reciprocity principle, and fees are not refunded if the visa is refused. Check the applicable amount with the Ukrainian embassy or consulate serving your country before you pay.
- Document legalisation and translation: apostille or Ministry legalisation, plus certified translation of your education documents — see our visa requirements page for the two legalisation routes.
- Health insurance: a valid policy covering your stay in Ukraine is a visa requirement, priced separately from tuition.
- Day-to-day living costs: food, local transport, and personal expenses, on top of hostel or accommodation fees. We haven’t quoted a single figure for this since it varies significantly by city and lifestyle — our accommodation team can give you a realistic, city-specific estimate for where you’re actually applying.
Who Charges What — the Five Different Costs
“How much does it cost to study in Ukraine” has no single answer, because the money goes to several different places. Confusing them is the most common way students end up with a budget that turns out to be wrong. These are the five, and who receives each.

Every figure in the table above this section is university tuition, set and charged by the university. We do not receive it, we do not set it, and it is not a payment to us. Our own fee is separate, depends on the package you choose, and is quoted to you in writing before anything begins.
The Official Ukrainian State Fee
There is one state charge that applies within the admission system itself, and it is worth knowing about because it is easy to mistake for an agency charge.
The Ukrainian government’s study portal at studyinukraine.gov.ua — run by the Ukrainian State Centre for International Education under the Ministry of Education and Science — publishes a charge of ₴3,100, VAT included, for the “use by foreigners of the Unified Interagency Information System of Ukraine for foreigners and stateless persons who wish to study”. The portal states the application fee is paid once.
That is a payment into the state system, not to a university and not to us. The same portal notes that its published list of services is not exhaustive, so confirm what applies in your case rather than assuming this is the only state charge.
Separately, a stay longer than 90 days requires a Temporary Residence Permit, which carries its own official charges. We have deliberately not quoted a figure here, because state duties and processing costs change and we would rather you got the current amount than a stale one from us.
A Second Opinion on These Numbers
You should not have to take one agency’s word for what a country’s education costs. The Ukrainian government’s own portal publishes indicative annual tuition ranges, in euro, independently of us:

Those are a different source in a different currency, so treat them as a sanity check rather than a like-for-like comparison with our dollar figures. The point is that our numbers sit inside the officially published spread rather than outside it, and you can verify that yourself.
The same portal also publishes indicative living costs: dormitory accommodation €50–150 a month and private housing from €200 a month; food €120–250 a month; transport and personal expenses €20–50 a month; and medical insurance up to €1,000 a year. For the visa fee itself we use the Ministry of Foreign Affairs figure given above rather than the portal’s indicative one, since the MFA sets it.
What Actually Determines Your Tuition
Four things, in roughly this order of impact.
- The university
- Tuition is set individually by each institution. Two universities teaching the same subject in the same city can charge materially different amounts.
- The programme
- Medicine and dentistry sit at the top; most other bachelor programmes cluster well below them, as the table on this page shows.
- The language of instruction
- The same programme taught in Ukrainian is typically cheaper than the English-medium version. Several universities publish two separate rates for exactly this reason — see what each university publishes about language.
- The year of study
- First-year tuition is not always the same as later years. Ask for the full schedule across the whole degree, not just year one.
How to Find the Exact Figure for Your University
Because tuition is set institution by institution, the only figure that matters is the one for the university and programme you actually apply to. Three ways to get it, in order of reliability:
- The university’s own published schedule. Some publish a complete tuition table for international students. Bogomolets National Medical University is the clearest example on this site: its international-student portal sets out fees per programme, per year, with separate Ukrainian-medium and English-medium rates. Ternopil National Medical University also publishes separate fees by language stream.
- Ask the university in writing. Name the exact programme and intake year, and ask for the fee for every year of the degree, not just the first.
- Ask us to get it for you. We will put the question to the university and give you their answer — or tell you plainly that we could not obtain one, which is sometimes the honest outcome.
One caution about published fees. A university that publishes a schedule does not always state which academic year it applies to. Where we have found that on a profile, we say so on the page. Always confirm the current year’s figure in writing before you commit money.
