I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University (TNMU) is one of Ukraine’s most established medical universities, and it holds a distinctive place for Study in Ukraine Today specifically: our consultancy is headquartered in Ternopil, the same city as the university itself. Founded in 1957, TNMU has trained international students since 1997 and today has one of the largest international student communities of any Ukrainian medical university.
History
TNMU was founded on 12 April 1957 as the Ternopil Medical Institute. It was renamed in honour of the physiologist Ivan Horbachevsky in 1992, received State Medical Academy status in 1997, became Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University in 2004, and was granted full national university status in 2019.
Faculties and International Students
The university is built around four core faculties — Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing — supported by a dedicated International Students’ Faculty that has operated since the first international students enrolled in September 1997. In the 2020/2021 academic year, the university had approximately 2,500 international students studying there from around 60 countries, one of the largest international cohorts of any medical university in Ukraine.
Why Choose Ternopil National Medical University?
Because Study in Ukraine Today is based in Ternopil, our team has direct, on-the-ground familiarity with this university and the city international students will actually be living in — not just distant admissions knowledge. TNMU’s scale of international enrolment (thousands of students from dozens of countries) means new arrivals join an established, genuinely international community rather than being among the first.
Admission Process
Study in Ukraine Today simplifies the admission process for international students applying to TNMU. Our dedicated team assists with application submissions, ensuring all necessary documents are prepared and submitted correctly, and guides you through every step from initial inquiry to your invitation letter and visa support.
Accommodation and Living in Ternopil
As a Ternopil-based consultancy, our Accommodation Coordinator has direct, local knowledge of housing options near the university — whether university dormitories or private apartments — and can help you find accommodation that genuinely fits your budget and needs, not just a generic listing.
Support Services
Our Visa Support Manager provides comprehensive guidance to ensure all visa requirements are met, and our team remains available throughout your studies at TNMU for ongoing academic and practical support.
