INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS

International economics is concerned with the effects upon economic activity of international differences in productive resources and consumer preferences and the international institutions that affect them. It seeks to explain the patterns and consequences of transactions and interactions between the inhabitants of different countries, including trade, investment and migration.
International trade studies goods-and-services flows across international boundaries from supply-and-demand factors, economic integration, international factor movements, and policy variables such as tariff rates and trade quotas.
International finance studies the flow of capital across international financial markets, and the effects of these movements on exchange rates
International monetary economics and macroeconomics studies money and macro flows across countries.
International political economy from international relations studies issues and impacts from for example international conflicts, international negotiations, and international sanctions; national security and economic nationalism; and international agreements and observance.

MANAGEMENT

The Bachelor of Business Management provides a comprehensive basis for a career in business while being flexible enough to let you pursue areas that particularly interest you. It is designed to equip you with the skills and self-confidence to effectively manage and adapt to a wide range of competitive and constantly changing business environments.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA or B.B.A.) is a bachelor’s degree in commerce and business administration. , the degree is conferred after four years of full-time study in one or more areas of business concentrations. The BBA program usually includes general business courses and advanced courses for specific concentrations.
The degree is designed to give a broad knowledge of the functional aspects of a company and their interconnection, while also allowing for specialization in a particular area. BBA programs expose students to a variety of “core subjects” and allow students to specialize in a specific academic area. The degree also develops the student’s practical managerial skills, communication skills and business decision-making capability. Many programs incorporate training and practical experience, in the form of case projects, presentations, internships, industrial visits, and interaction with experts from the industry.

COMPUTER SCIENCE

The American-Ukrainian School of Computer Science (AUS),  was founded in April, 2004 according to the bilateral agreement between the Ternopil National Economic University (TNEU, Ukraine) and the University of Maine (UMaine, USA).
This agreement has been concluded according to the initiative of Prof. Anatoly Sachenko,TNEU and Prof. George Markowsky, UMaine. Prof. George Markowsky was a first Dean of the AUS during 2004 – 2005 academic year.

TOP 10 REASONS TO MAJOR IN COMPUTING
1. Computing is part of everything we do! Computing and computer technology are part of just about everything that touches our lives from the cars we drive, to the movies we watch, to the ways businesses and governments deal with us. Understanding different dimensions of computing is part of the necessary skill set for an educated person in the 21st century.
2. Expertise in computing enables you to solve complex, challenging problems.
3. Computing enables you to make a positive difference in the world. Computing drives innovation in the sciences, and also in engineering, business, entertainment and education.
4. Computing offers many types of lucrative careers. Computing jobs are among the highest paid and have the highest job satisfaction. Computing is very often associated with innovation, and developments in computing tend to drive it. This, in turn, is the key to national competitiveness.
5. Computing jobs are here to stay, regardless of where you are located. There actually are more computing jobs than qualified people to fill them. Statistics says computing has the greatest potential for new jobs.
6. Expertise in computing helps you even if your primary career choice is something else. Having a computing major will provide you with a foundation of knowledge, problem solving and logical thinking that will serve as a competitive advantage to you in your career, in whatever field you choose.
7. Computing offers great opportunities for true creativity and innovativeness. Creating high-quality computing solutions is a highly creative activity, and computing supports creative work in many other fields.
8. Computing has space for both collaborative work and individual effort. Computing is often about being part of a team that requires people with many different kinds of skills.
9. Computing is an essential part of well-rounded academic preparation. An increasing number of universities and employers see successful completion of a computer science course as a sign of academic well-roundedness.
10. Future opportunities in computing are without boundaries. Computing is one of those fields where it is almost impossible to predict what will happen next. This is why we cannot even begin to imagine all the ways that you can make a contribution to it and it can make your life’s work exciting and real.
COMPUTER SCIENCE CAREER
Computer Science spans the range from theory through programming to cutting-edge development of computing solutions. Computer science offers a foundation that permits graduates to adapt to new technologies and new ideas.

The work of computer scientists falls into three categories: a) designing and building software; b) developing effective ways to solve computing problems, such as storing information in databases, sending data over networks or providing new approaches to security problems; and c) devising new and better ways of using computers and addressing particular challenges in areas such as robotics, computer vision, Internet of Things or digital forensics.
Career path in each area.
• Career Path 1: Designing and implementing software. This refers to the work of software development which has grown to include aspects of web development, interface design, security issues, mobile computing, and so on. This is the career path that the majority of computer science graduates follow. While a bachelor’s degree is generally sufficient for entry into this kind of career, many software professionals return to school to obtain a terminal master’s degree. (Rarely is a doctorate involved.) Career opportunities occur in a wide variety of settings including large or small software companies, large or small computer services companies, and large organizations of all kinds (industry, government, banking, healthcare, etc.).
• Career Path 2: Devising new ways to use computers. This refers to innovation in the application of computer technology. A career path in this area can involve advanced graduate work, followed by a position in a research university or industrial research and development laboratory; it can involve entrepreneurial activity such as was evident during the dot-com boom of the 1990s; or it can involve a combination of the two.
• Career Path 3: Developing effective ways to solve computing problems. This refers to the application or development of computer science theory and knowledge of algorithms to ensure the best possible solutions for computationally intensive problems. As a practical matter, a career path in the development of new computer science theory typically requires graduate work to the Ph.D. level, followed by a position in a research university or an industrial research and development laboratory.
• Career Path 4: Project planning and managing the IT infrastructure. This is the type of work for which the new information technology (IT) programs explicitly aim to educate students.

STUDY at AUS
AUS’s students are studying according to the Ukrainian and American educational standards; therefore the pragmatism of the American education had been supplemented with the Ukrainian achievements in fundamental subjects learning.

The studying process is defined by the integrated curricula in COMPUTER SCIENCE which include courses required by the Ministry for Education and Science of Ukraine as well as courses from curricula of the American universities.
Students are studying during 4 years to obtain a Bachelor Degree. Then some part of students, will have the opportunity to continue a study at the UMaine, TNEU or any some other American and European university and apply for Master Program. Of course students can apply for Master Program in CS at TNEU as well, then some of them may apply for PhD Program.
The lectures at AUS are conducted by faculty from American and European universities, participants of the Fulbright program in Ukraine, Peace Corps representatives and leading instructors from TNEU, many of whom have been trained in the USA and Europe. The main feature of the AUS is learning courses in English. The Credit Transfer System, ECTS, is used to ensure that students will save their work credits and will have the opportunity to complete education in the USA or Western Europe universities.

STUDENT EXCHANGE

AUS facilitates the student transfers and exchange. For example, two former TNEU students Andriy Fedorov and Andriy Kot obtained MSc degree in the William & Mary College, Virginia, then Andriy Fedorov got his PhD degree ; Vitaliy Vitsentiy received his MSc degree in the UMaine and later his PhD in Australia; AUS student of third year Vitaliy Matiash was recommended to continue his study in the University of South Carolina Upstate; AUS students of fourth year Iurii Ferents and Olexandr Shepchenko won grant and studied during the spring semester of 2009 in the UMaine.
Students exchange between TNEU and UMaine and University of New Hampshire as well as the visits to American universities in Europe are planned in order to facilitate the adaptation to American education.
In March, 2009 AUS students already visited Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – the eldest polytechnic university in the USA. They spent there 10 days and were partially involved in the educational process. The contacts will be provided with the leading Ukrainian and foreign enterprises and establishments for possible base of future practice, trainings and employment of AUS alumni also.

STUDENT BENEFITS AND OUTLOOK
AUS facilitates the clever and diligent students in application for different educational and research grants. For example, the scholarship of $1000 is assigned this year from Darwin’s Grove LLC, USA, for student research projects support. Active AUS students have opportunities to join the IEEE Student Branch in TNEU,  to participate in the international projects of Research Institute for Intelligent Computer Systems, as well as IDAACS international conferences, , take a part in the technical meetings of the IEEE Ukraine Section Instrumentation & Measurement / Computational Intelligence Joint Societies Chapter,  obtain their PhD degree in TNEU and be employed in the university.
