Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (NURE) has a genuinely notable current distinction: in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 for International Students, NURE ranks first among 162 universities in Ukraine (316th in Europe). Founded in 1930, the university has evolved through several distinct institutional identities before becoming Ukraine’s leading technology-focused university for electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunications, and computer technologies.
History
NURE was founded in 1930 as the Kharkiv Engineering-Building Institute, combining faculty from the Kharkiv Polytechnical Institute and the architectural faculty of Kharkiv Art Institute. It was reorganised and renamed several times over the following decades: to the Kharkiv Mining Institute of the Coal Industry of the USSR in 1944, the Kharkiv Institute of Mining Machine Building, Automatics, and Computer Engineering in 1962, and the Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics in 1966. It became the Kharkiv State Technical University of Radio Electronics in 1993, and was granted full National University status in 2001.
Faculties and Focus
NURE has 7 faculties and 34 departments, with its academic focus concentrated on electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunications, and computer technologies — a genuinely specialised technology profile rather than a broad general-engineering curriculum.
International Students
NURE recruits more than 8,000 students each year, including over 1,000 international students from 50 countries.
Why Choose Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics?
