Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University traces its origins back further than almost any other medical school in Ukraine — to 1784, when Lviv University was founded with four faculties, including Medicine, by decree of Emperor Joseph II of Austria-Hungary. Today it is one of the oldest and largest medical universities in Ukraine, based in Lviv, one of the country’s most popular destinations for international students.

History

The university’s medical faculty dates to 16 November 1784. In 1998, the Lviv State Medical University was named in honour of Danylo Halytsky, the historical King of Ruthenia associated with the founding of Lviv, and in 2003 it was conferred National Medical University status by Presidential Decree of Ukraine.

Faculties and Facilities

The university comprises six faculties and 75 departments, including 49 clinical departments based at its University Hospital and across a network of 116 healthcare facilities. This scale of clinical infrastructure gives students substantial hands-on hospital exposure alongside their academic studies.

International Students

Thousands of international students from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas have earned their medical degrees at Lviv National Medical University. The university offers both on-campus and off-campus hostel facilities for international students.
