The honest answer is that studying in Ukraine does not, by itself, give you the right to work there. Employment of foreigners is governed by employment law rather than by your student status, and the permission sits with an employer rather than with you. Understanding Work Regulations for International Students
A point that is very widely got wrong, including by agency websites: the work permit is obtained by the employer, not by the student. Companies and organisations may employ a foreigner in Ukraine on the basis of a permit issued to them by the territorial bodies of the state employment service, for a period of up to one year. There are defined categories of foreigner exempt from that requirement - among them refugees, people granted temporary protection, foreign media staff, professional sportspeople and artists, and religious ministers - and students are not among them. Separately, the State Migration Service does not state that a temporary residence permit issued for the purpose of study carries a right to work.
Types of Work Available
This is where students are most often misled. Because the permission rests with an employer, the practical question is not “what jobs are available” but “will an employer go through a permit process for this role”. For casual hospitality, retail or tutoring work, the honest answer is usually no. Study-related placements and internships arranged through your university sit on a different footing from ordinary paid employment, and are worth asking your faculty about directly.

Even where employment is lawful, a preparatory year runs to a full-time timetable - one university publishes 36 hours a week across 37 educational weeks - and a medical degree is more demanding again. Plan on your studies being the whole of your commitment, and treat any earnings as something that might happen rather than something you are relying on.
