Ternopil is a city in western Ukraine, located on the banks of the Seret River. Until 1944, it was known mostly as Tarnopol. Ternopil is one of the major cities of Western Ukraine and the historical regions of Galicia and Podolia
This year(2018) our hometown celebrates 477th anniversary.
Armed with natural curiosity and having read different information, we received a list of interesting facts about our hometown:
1. The highest terrain of Ternopil is the Avenue of Stepan Bandera, near the Orbita shop in the East, and the lowest is the bank of the Seret River, near the Bypass Road.
2. The oldest building in Ternopil – Ternopil Castle (1540year).
3. The hotel “Ternopil” is located on the site of the first theater “Podillya”. 4. From 1940 to 50 years on the Theater Square, there was a monument to Stalin, but his city was ruined by the first in the Soviet Union.
5. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God is the first temple of the western region, where the liturgy began to be sent in English.
6. The singing field in Ukraine appeared for the first time in Ternopil.
7. The longest cave of the Eurasian continent is located in the Ternopil region and is called “Optimistic”.
8. Famous French writer Honore de Balzac stopped in Ternopil.
9. In Ukraine, the first language Esperanto textbook was published in our city.
10. If you imagine a tunnel through a land that would start digging in Ternopil, then the outflow of the tunnel would probably be located in New Zealand.
